The second stage takes place first along the barrier basins of the middle course of the Salzach up to Schwarzach, to then overcome a climb beyond which you arrive in the Gastein valley. From the beginning of the valley to Bad Gastein, a spa resort crossed by a famous waterfall, you follow a cycle path that crosses a magnificent alpine scenery.The Salzburg Alps are a constant presence in this stage. In the Gastein valley the view finally opens up to the peaks and glaciers of the Hohe Tauern. From Bischofshofen to Schwarzach you can easily cycle along the Salzach river, which in this section is partly protected by damming dams. Along the way you cross St. Johann im Pongau, district capital, (it is worth taking a detour to visit the great neo-Gothic "Pongauer Dom" in the upper part of the country).Between Schwarzach and the village of Klammstein, at the beginning of the Gastein valley, you have to overcome 200 meters in altitude. At the beginning of the valley you have to cross a 1.5 km long tunnel. To avoid it, you can take the railway or the taxi for cyclists (Radtaxi). Without further climbs, you can pedal pleasantly through the Gastein valley, first touching Dorfgastein and then the center of Bad Hofgastein, a famous spa resort. From here, following the Gasteiner Ache stream, continue to Bad Bruck. The scenery of the famous spa around the Gastein waterfall gets closer and closer to the cyclist's eyes. But to get to Bad Gastein you have to overcome the last few meters on a steep slope.

This stage starts in the Gastein valley or in Mallnitz (depending on the time of day when you cross the Tauern chain with the shuttle train).Beyond the Tauern railway tunnel you arrive in Carinthia, one of the most important tourist areas of Austria, on the south side of the main Alpine chain. The Alpe Adria cycle route in this section runs mostly through the lower Mölltal valley, bordered by peaks that reach over 3,000 meters: the Reisseck group to the north and the Kreuzeck group to the south of the valley. Among the main attractions worth a visit are the center of Obervellach, the Falkenstein castle, the Bernitz waterfall, the Reisseck and Kreuzeck funiculars, the Barbarossa gorge, the rest area at the Möllstausee artificial lake in Mühldorf. In Spittal, the district's capital, the most interesting places are the magnificent Renaissance palace, Schloss Porcia, with the Museum of Popular Culture, and the beautiful city park.
